Answer the following questions

1. What does 'sunk to poverty mean'?

Ans: The phrase means fall into poverty, have one's financial situation deteriorate until one is poor

2. Where was the ship destined to go?

Ans: The ship was destined to go to the city of El-Basrah.

3. What does the word 'bartered' mean?

Ans: The word barter means to exchange (goods or services) for other goods or services without using money

4. What happened when the ship was anchored to an island? 

Ans: When the ship was anchored to an island, the captain discovered that it was not actually an island. It was a mighty fish lying entranced in sleep on the surface of the sea and since it was sleeping for a very long time, grass and trees had grown upon that. but the fires and frolicking awakened the fish.

5. How did Sinbad manage to leave the desolate island?

Ans: Sinbad met two warriors who had come to capture a sea horse. They gave him food and took him out of that desolate island. They took him to their kingdom. The King had been very nice to him and when Sinbad left his kingdom, the King presented him with many valuable commodities.

6. What was the name of the King?

Ans: The name of the king is King Miraj. He was very courteous and generous. He presented Sindbad with a great wealth of merchandise and rare commodities. 

7. Why do you think Sinbad wanted to return to Baghdad?

Ans: The ship on which Sinbad was sailing was going to El-Basrah. When he missed the ship on the island, he wanted to return to El-Basrah to get his merchandise from the ship he was sailing. In addition, he also wanted to see his friends who had sailed on the ship. He wanted to inform them that he was alive.
