Use of English:


Demonstrative and indefinite Pronouns: (Page-23)

Demonstrative pronouns point out a specific person or thing. For example, this, that, these and those

Examples:

Please listen to the interview. Please listen to this
Remember this: If you can speak another language, it has great benefits

Demonstrative pronouns also express the contrast between:
  • People and things that are far away. For example, that, those.
  • People and things that are near. For example, this, these.


Q. Identify the demonstrative pronouns in these sentences. (Page-23)

a) This is not the way I used to live in my country.
b) Put that away - you don't need it.
c) The languages I wanted to learn are these: Sindhi, Balochi, Spanish, German, and English.
d) Which of those do you want?


Q. Add the correct demonstrative pronouns to these sentences. chose them from That, These, Those, This  (Page-23)

Reflexive Pronouns: (Page-24)

Reflexive pronouns e.g. itself, have two different uses:
To provide an object that is the same as the subject. e.g. " I saw myself in the mirror."
To refer back to and intensify a preceding noun, e.g.  " I saw the man himself."


Q. Read the dialogue between Omer and his friend Oliver. Change the underlined nouns to pronouns and fill in the blanks with the reflexive pronouns. Rewrite the paragraph for clarity. (Page-24)



Omer: Hello Oliver! Can Oliver show Omer where the Science lab is?
Oliver: Hi! Of course, Oliver can. The Science lab is on the first floor, next to the computer room, on the right.
Omer: Can Omer and Oliver walk there together or shall Omer go ________________.
Oliver: Yes! Let Oliver get Oliver books and Omer and Oliver can go.
Omer: Thank you! Omer is hungry too. Oliver can get his books and Omer can get a sandwich for himself. Will Oliver get his or shall Omer get it for Oliver.

Ans. 
Omer: Hello Oliver! Can you show me where the Science lab is?
Oliver: Hi! Of course, I can. The Science lab is on the first floor, next to the computer room, on the right.
Omer: Can I and you walk there together or shall I go myself.
Oliver: Yes! Let me get my books and we can go.
