Q. "Write Short Answers"

Q(i).  Define Environment.

Ans: Everything around an organism that effect its life is called environment. Life is not same on every part of the earth.

Q(ii). Give component of Environment?

Ans: Environment has two component.

1. Biotic component

2. Abiotic component.

Q(iii).  Define biotic and abiotic component?

Ans: All plants, animals, plants and microorganisms are called living and biotic component.
Air water, light, temperature and soil constitute non living and abiotic component.

Q(iv). Define producers?

Ans: Plants are able to make their own food by photosynthesis and are known as producers. They also release oxygen in which all living organisms respire e.g: plants etc.

Q(v). Define consumers?

Ans: All the organisms which do not make their own food and feed on plants directly or indirectly are called consumer e.g: human, lion , horse.

Q(vi). Define herbivores and give example.

Ans: The animals that eat only plants are called herbivores.

Example: Horses, Goat, Squirrels and Butterflies, are herbivores.

Q(vii). Define carnivores and give example.

Ans: Animals that eat flesh of the herbivores or other animals are called carnivores.

Example: Tigers, Lions, Cats, Dogs and Frogs

Q(viii). Define omnivores and give example.

Ans: Some animals eat both plants and animals, they are called omnivores. Example: chickens, crows, bears, and humans are omnivores.

Q(ix). Define decomposers.

Ans: When plants and animals die, their bodies are broken down or decomposed by bacteria and fungi. These bacteria and fungi are called decompose.

Q(x). Give importance of decomposer.

Ans: Decomposer play a very important role in the environment. They break down complex substances into simple ones. Plants and animals reuse these simple substances. This is a natural way of “recycling” of materials.

Q(xi). How some animals use plants for shelter?

Ans: Some animals such as owls make their homes in the holes of trees, plants provide animals shade and also make surrounding cool.

Q(xii). How some birds use plants for shelter?

Ans: Some birds like sparrows, crows, eagles and kites build their nests in trees. Plants provide birds shade and also make surrounding cool.

Q(xiii). How some insects use plants for shelter?

Ans: A few insects like the ants, grass hoppers, moths, and beetles live in trees. Plants provide insect shade and also make surrounding cool.

Q(xiv). Why carbon dioxide is necessary for plants?

Ans: Plants cannot make their food without carbon dioxide gas. All animals release carbon dioxide during respiration plants absorb this gas from air.

Q(xv). How plants give protection to animals from enemies?

Ans: Some animals take help from plants to protect themselves from enemies. For example: A parrot hides in the green leaves due to its colour. A grass hopper hide in leaves due to its same colour.

Q(xvi). Define food chain and give example?

Ans: Definition: There is a food link among organisms is called food chain.

Example: grass ⟶ grass hopper ⟶ frog ⟶ snake.

Q(xvii). Can you name a few animals that are found in water?

Ans: Many plants such as water lily and hydrilla are found in water.

Q(xviii). How organisms survive in desert?

Ans: Organisms living in deserts have developed special features to store water in their bodies. Its fleshy body and spines help it to store water in its body. Example: Cactus.

Q(xix). Define predator and prey?

Ans: Predator: An animal that kills and eat by another animal is called predator e.g. rat, rabbit.

Prey: The prey is the animal that predator kills and eat e.g. Fox, Lion

Q(xx). Define predation and give example.

Ans: The relationship between prey and predator is called predation.

Example: Cat ------- Rat , Fox -------- Rabbit.

Q(xxi). Define parasite and host?

Ans:

Parasite: A parasite is a living organisms that feed on another living organism eg. The mosquito uses out blood.

Host: The living organism on which the parasite feed is called host eg. We are host for mosquito.

Q(xxii). Define parasitism.

Ans: Parasitism is a relationship between two living organisms in which one harmed and other helped.

Q(xxiii). Define mutualism and give example.

Ans:  Mutualism is a relationship in which two living organisms live together and depend on each other.

Example: Algae and fungi form lichen. Green alga makes food for (shelter) itself and for the fungus. Fungus protects the algae from dying up.
