Speech on Islamic New Year -- Speech in English (high School/College standard)

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and fellow students,

Good (Morning/Afternoon/Evening)
(say it according to the occasion)

I stand before you today to commemorate the Islamic New Year, also known as Muharram, a significant and sacred occasion in the Islamic calendar. It is a time for reflection, renewal, and recommitment to the values and principles that guide our lives as Muslims.

Dear Fellows!

The Islamic New Year marks the beginning of the lunar calendar, and it holds great spiritual and historical significance for Muslims around the world. It is a moment to remember the Hijra, the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Mecca to Medina in the year 622 CE. This event not only marked a turning point in the life of the Prophet but also symbolized the birth of the Muslim community, known as the Ummah.

Worthily Audience!

As we usher in this new year, it is crucial to reflect on the lessons and wisdom that this occasion imparts to us. One of the most profound aspects of the Islamic New Year is the spirit of resilience and perseverance demonstrated by the Prophet Muhammad and his followers during their migration. It serves as a reminder that, in the face of adversity and challenges, we must have faith, determination, and trust in Allah's plan.

The Hijra also signifies the importance of seeking a better environment, where we can practice our faith freely and peacefully. It teaches us that we should never compromise our beliefs and values, and we should be willing to make sacrifices for the sake of our faith and the betterment of our community.

Moreover, Muharram is a time for self-reflection and self-improvement. Just as we set resolutions for the Gregorian New Year, we can use this occasion to make spiritual resolutions, renew our commitment to our faith, and strive to become better individuals. It is a time to seek forgiveness for our past mistakes and to strive for self-improvement in the coming year.

During the first ten days of Muharram, many Muslims fast and engage in acts of worship and reflection. The Day of Ashura, which falls on the 10th day of Muharram, holds particular significance. It is a day of fasting and remembrance, and it is a time to reflect on the trials faced by the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and his people as they were liberated from oppression.

In some traditions, the Day of Ashura is also a time to remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and his companions at the Battle of Karbala. This event is a solemn reminder of the importance of standing up for justice and righteousness, even in the face of overwhelming odds.

As we embark on this new year, let us remember the lessons of the Islamic New Year. Let us embrace the spirit of resilience, self-improvement, and unwavering faith. Let us seek to better ourselves and our communities, and let us always strive to uphold the values of justice, compassion, and peace.

In conclusion, the Islamic New Year, Muharram, is a time of reflection, renewal, and recommitment to our faith and values. It reminds us of the Hijra and the sacrifices made for the sake of Islam, and it calls us to emulate the resilience and determination of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his followers. Let us use this occasion to draw closer to Allah, seek forgiveness, and work toward becoming better individuals and members of our community.

May Allah bless you all in this new year, and may it bring peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth to all believers. Thank you.
