Predicate and types of predicates --- Easy English Grammar Notes

Predicate:

It is the part of a sentence or clause containing a verb and stating something about the subject. Remember that the subject tells who or what the sentence is about or the sentence is talking about. The predicate tells what the subject is doing or what is being said about the subject.

Example: 

	Subjects	Predicate
1.	He	played games yesterday.
2.	They	will write some stories,
3.	She	has helped me
4.	You	always help me.

Simple Predicate:

A simple predicate consists of only a verb, verb string, or compound verb.

Example: 

Sr. No.	Subjects	One Predicate
1.	The glacier	melted.
2.	The glacier	has been melting.

Compound Predicate:

A compound predicate consists of two (or more) such predicates connected.

Example: 

	Subjects	Predicate 1	Conjunction	Predicate 2
1.	He	wrote a book	and	sold it in the market.
2.	The thief	broke the door	and	stole everything.
