i. What do you observe when solid wax is heated in a beaker?

Ans: The solid wax melts upon heating.


ii. What does the wax become upon melting? 

Ans: The wax becomes liquid. 


iii What happens when you cool wax? 

Ans: The wax freezes upon cooling. 


iv. What is this change of states called? 

Ans: This state of change is called a physical change.


v. Define Physical Changes. 

Ans: In a physical change, only the appearance of a substance changes but the chemical composition remains the same

Dilute and Concentrated Solution





i. In which glass the colour of the solution will be the lightest and the darkest? 

Ans: in glass 2, the colour will be the lightest. In glass 5, the colour will be the darkest. 


ii. What is the solution of glass 2 called? 

Ans: This solution is called a dilute solution. 


iii. Define Dilute Solution. 

Ans: A solution having a minor quantity of solute is called a dilute solution 


iv. What is the solution in glass 5 called?

Ans: This solution is called a concentrated solution. 


v. Define concentrated solution? 

Ans: A solution having a major quantity of solute is called a concentrated solution.

Rusting 

i. In which test tube does the iron nail becomes brown in colour? 

Ans: In test tube A, the nail becomes brown. 


ii. Why were boiled water and oil drops added to test tube B? 

Ans: The water is boiled and oil is added to remove and stop oxygen from getting into the water. 


iii. In how many test tubes, the nails did not become brown? 

Ans: In test tubes B and C, nails did not become brown. 


iv. Why did the nail not become brown in these test tubes? 

Ans: The nail did not become brown because test tube B had no oxygen and test tube C had no water in it. 


v. What is this change of colour called? 

Ans: The change in the iron nail is due to oxygen and water and it is called rusting.
