Ans: The first layer to be removed is the seed coat 

2. Upon opening the seed longitudinally, how many cotyledons did you see? 

Ans: There are two cotyledons. 

3. Draw a longitudinal section of the seed and label it. 

(1 mark for Drawing and 2 marks for Labelling)

Days	Observation of changes in the seed
3rd Day	Seed coat raptures to expose embryo.
6th Day	Radicle germinates into the soil to form roots.
9th Day	Plumule elongates to carry cotyledons above the soil
12th Day	Cotyledons become the first leaves for germinating saplings.
15th Day	Roots grow into the soil and regular leaves start growing

Question and Answers:

1. In which test tube did the seed germinate? 

Ans: Test tube A, because it has air, water, and a suitable temperature. 

2. Why did the seeds not germinate in Test Tube 'B'? 

Ans: It has no water for germination. 

3. Why did the seeds not germinate in Test Tube 'C'? 

Ans: It has no air due to the layer of oil. 

4. Why did the seeds not germinate in Test Tube 'D'? 

Ans: The test tube 'D' has no suitable temperature. 

5. What does this experiment prove? 

Ans: The experiment proves that water, air, and suitable temperature are conditions necessary for seed germination.
