Q(i). Write three causes of air pollution? 

Ans: 

Causes of air pollution are:

1. Smoke from traffic and factories 

2. Burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) 

3. Use of aerosol Sprays 


Q(ii). What are the four effects of pollution?

Ans: 

The four effects of pollution are:

1. Germs present in polluted water cause different diseases. 

2 Some of the air pollutants such as CFCs damage the ozone layer.

3. Pollutant gases present in smog cause lung diseases and allergies.

4. Human and animal lives are at risk due to drinking polluted water.



Q(iii). What is the greenhouse effect?

Ans:

Green House Effect:

Carbon dioxide. and other gases present in the environment work like the glass of a greenhouse. These gases allow the sunlight to reach the Earth but do not allow the heat to leave the Earth. This process is called the greenhouse effect. Due to this our earth remains hot.


Q(iv). What will be the effects of Global Warming? 

Ans: Effects of Global Warming 

1. The climate of the world is changing due to global warming 

2. It is causing more rain and flooding. 

3. The North and South poles' ice is melting faster. Due to it, the level of seawater is rising. 


Q(v). Write three ways of preventive measures to reduce o pollution? 

Ans: 

1. Cutting of trees and forests should be reduced.

2. We should shift the factories away from the cities.

3. Polluted water should not be poured into rivers, canals, and lakes. 

4. The garbage and solid wastes in the house are to be disposed of properly.

Q(i). What is the main cause of pollution? 

Ans: 

Causes of Pollution:

1. The main cause of air pollution is the poisonous substances in the smoke emitted by vehicles on the roads and factories.

2. The polluted sewerage water, waste substances, insecticides, fertilizers, and leaking oil are the main causes of water pollution. 

3. Garbage from homes, fertilizers, wastes, and a spray of chemical substances are the main causes of land pollution.


Q(ii). Why Government of Pakistan has banned the use of polythene bags?

Ans. The government has banned polythene bags due to the following reasons. 

1. Polythene bags pollute not only water but also land.

2. Plastic bags are not degradable. 

3. These bags are not easy to recycle. 

4. They are harmful to human health. 

5. These are harmful to wildlife and marine life.

6. Polythene bags are filled with toxic and harmful chemicals. 


Q(iii). If it is written d2w on the polythene bags then why is there no ban on the use of such bags?

Ans. 

D2W is a chemical that is added to plastic to make it biodegradable and good for the environment.

Q(i). What is the relationship between diseases and pollution?


Ans:

Environmental pollutants can affect everyone's health. Germs present in polluted water cause different diseases. Human and animal lives are at risk due to environmental pollutants. It can cause health problems like respiratory diseases, heart disease, and some types of cancer. Pollutant gases present in smog cause lung diseases and allergies.


Q(ii). Identify biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials present in your environment.

Ans:

Biodegradable Materials:

Materials that are broken down into simple Substances by the natural process are called biodegradable materials.

Examples: vegetables, fruits, meat, paper


Non- Biodegradable Materials: 

Materials that are not broken into simple substances by the natural process are called Non-biodegradable Materials. 

Examples: polythene bags, plastic bottles, and computer components.
