World Tourism Day "27th September"
Ladies and gentlemen,
I am honored to stand before you today on this special occasion to celebrate World Tourism Day. This day provides us with a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon the profound impact that tourism has on our world, our economies, and our lives. It is a day to recognize the power of tourism as a force for positive change and a catalyst for global understanding and cooperation.
Worthily guests!
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) designated September 27th as World Tourism Day to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes in 1970. Since then, this day has served as a platform to promote the importance of tourism and its role in fostering sustainable development, preserving cultural heritage, and enhancing international relations.
This year's theme, "Tourism for Inclusive Growth," emphasizes the need to ensure that tourism benefits everyone, from travelers and local communities to businesses and governments. Inclusivity means creating opportunities for all, regardless of their background, abilities, or circumstances. It means recognizing the diverse cultures and traditions that enrich our world and respecting the environment that sustains us.
Tourism has the power to drive economic growth and create jobs, particularly in regions where other opportunities may be limited. It brings people together, promotes cultural exchange, and helps build bridges of understanding between nations. It is a powerful tool for poverty reduction, empowerment of women, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
However, with great power comes great responsibility. As we celebrate the positive aspects of tourism, we must also acknowledge the challenges it brings. Over-tourism, environmental degradation, and cultural commodification are just a few of the issues that need our attention. Therefore, it is our collective duty to promote responsible and sustainable tourism practices.
Worthily Audience!
Here are some ways we can ensure that tourism contributes to inclusive growth:
Community Involvement: Encourage local communities to actively participate in and benefit from tourism activities. This includes opportunities for local businesses and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Environmental Sustainability: Promote eco-friendly tourism practices that minimize the environmental impact of travel and protect our natural resources.
Diversity and Inclusion: Make tourism accessible to all, regardless of their physical abilities, economic status, or cultural backgrounds.
Cultural Preservation: Respect and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our world. Ensure that tourism activities do not exploit or commodify cultures but rather contribute to their preservation and appreciation.
Education and Awareness: Promote awareness among tourists and travel industry professionals about the importance of responsible tourism.
In conclusion, World Tourism Day reminds us of the incredible potential of tourism to promote inclusive growth and global understanding. It calls upon us to harness this potential responsibly and sustainably. Let us work together to ensure that tourism benefits not just a select few but contributes to the well-being of all, leaving no one behind.
Thank you, and let us all be advocates for responsible tourism on this World Tourism Day and beyond.
