Q(i). Can you tell the names and functions of the four parts of a flower? 

Ans: The four parts of the flower are:

i. Sepals     ii. petals:     iii. Stamen      iv. Carpel 

Sepals: They protect the flower.

Petals: They attract insects and birds to the flower 

Stamen: 'It is the male reproductive part of a flower.

Carpel: It is the female reproductive part of a flower.

Q(ii). How will you compare self-pollination to Cross-pollination?

Ans:

Self Pollination:

1. Self-pollination involves a single plant. 

2. Pollinating agents are not necessary.

3. It can occur even when the flower is closed.

Cross-Pollination:

1. Cross-pollination involves two different plants of the same species.

2. Pollinating agents (wind, insects, birds) are required. 

3. It occurs only when the flower is open. 

Q(iii). Compare a gram with a maize seed. 

Ans: 

Gram Seed:

1. It has two Cotyledons.

2. Endosperm is absent.

3. Embryo is present at the Centre of the Seed.

Maize Seed:

1. It has one I cotyledon 

2. Endosperm is present.

3. Embryo is present at one side of the Seed

Ans: 

Reproduction:

Reproduction is the process by which Organisms produce new organisms of their own kind for the continuation of their generation.

Q1. Observe the picture. What is the role of water in seed germination? 

Ans: The experiment results according to pictures indicate that plain water is the best-growing liquid for seeds. Later plays an important role in seed germination. It provides dissolved oxygen for the growing embryo, Softens the seed coats, and increases the seed permeability. 

Q2. Observe the picture. For which types of pollination, are the shapes and structures of flowers are suitable? 

Ans: 

Flowering plants depend on pollinating agents (wind, insects, birds) for their pollination. In Cross-pollination the transfer of pollen grains from the anther of one plant to the stigma of another different plant of the same species. So, cross-pollination is suitable for the shapes and structures of flowers.

4. "Investigate"

Q1: If all the insects become extinct, what will be its effect on flowering plants?

Ans: Many flowering plants depend on insects for their pollination. Many insects like bees, butterflies, or other pollinating insects play a very important role in the process of pollination of flowering plants. If all these insects become extinct most plant life on earth will disappear. Because without them flowering plants would be unable to reproduce and would go extinct.
